I tend to use roughly one 100 tablet bottle of vitamin D per year. At the start of the last couple of SAD seasons I've had a few tablets left over from the previous year. I've checked the use-by date, which has been fine, and finished off the bottle. Both this year and last year I felt that the old tablets weren't really doing their stuff, so I've bought a new bottle of the same product and BOOM! I felt better immediately. The normal effect which I experience with taking vitamin D (perky, livelier, more alert and confident) has returned straight away.

All of this makes me wonder whether vitamin D has a 'full potency' shelf life of just a few months rather than the two years usually indicated on the bottle. I'm not saying last year's supply didn't work at all, it's just that the new tablets are so much more effective. I therefore reckon that it's just good practice at the start of every SAD season to obtain a fresh supply of vitamin D, whatever your brand.

Has anybody else noticed this?
